Jira

Import Jira issues into ProjectBrain as tasks, match Jira people to your team, and re-import to pick up changes.

The Jira integration copies Jira issues into ProjectBrain as tasks. It runs when you start it, and it only reads from Jira. Nothing is written back.

Use it to move a team off Jira, or to bring a Jira project’s work alongside the rest of your projects.

  • You connect your own Jira account. Imports you start run as you, so you see only Jira projects your Jira account can see.
  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Jira.
  2. Choose Connect Jira account and approve access in Jira.
  3. The page shows Connected to Jira and lists your Jira projects.

If tasks arrive without statuses, choose Reconnect Jira to refresh what ProjectBrain may read.

  1. Optionally narrow the import with Import issues updated in the last (7 days up to All time).
  2. Turn on Use Jira issue keys as task IDs if you want tasks to keep keys like ABC-123.
  3. On a Jira project’s row, pick a ProjectBrain project under Import into and choose Import. Or choose Create & import to make a new project named after the Jira project.
  4. To import everything at once, choose Import all active projects.

Imports run in the background, so you can leave the page. Import status shows each run as Waiting to start, Running, Done (with counts of new, updated and skipped tasks), Failed or Stalled. History shows the last five runs for each Jira project.

Status and board columns Workflow statuses and board columns, matched by name

Missing board columns are added in Jira’s order. Existing columns are never renamed or deleted. Columns are shared across your organization, so importing several Jira projects adds their columns to one board layout.

Importing the same project again updates the tasks it already brought in. It does not create duplicates.

Not imported: attachments, and anything changed in ProjectBrain is not sent back to Jira. Jira issue hierarchy is not rebuilt as subtasks.

People are matched by email. Anyone without a match is listed under Jira people with no match, and their tasks import with no assignee. For each person you can:

  • Map them to a team member with Pick user…
  • Create user for them
  • Ignore them, so their tasks stay unassigned

Choose Preview assignees on a project row to sort this out before you import. Matches are remembered for later imports.

Choose Ignore on a row you never want. Ignored projects move to Ignored projects and are skipped by Import all active projects. Choose Stop ignoring to bring one back.

Choose Disconnect on the Jira card at Settings > Integrations. This removes only your own connection. Tasks already imported stay.
