Custom prompts

Write reusable prompts once and run them from any AI assistant connected to your organization.

A custom prompt is a saved instruction your team can run from any connected assistant, such as “Friday Retro” or “Standup Brief”. Write it once and everyone gets the same steps, instead of each person typing their own version.

  • Anyone with mcp.connect can see the prompts at Settings > Custom Prompts.
  • Only people with mcp.admin can create, edit or delete them. By default that is owners.
  1. Go to Settings > Custom Prompts and choose New prompt.
  2. Fill in Name, Slug and Description. The slug is the command name people type in their assistant, so keep it short.
  3. Write the Body (markdown): the instructions the assistant follows. It can be up to 10,000 characters.
  4. To ask for input when the prompt runs, choose Add argument. Give it a name and a type (string, number or boolean), and tick Req if it is required. In the body, put the argument name in double curly braces where the value should go, for example {{project}}.
  5. Leave Enabled (visible to AI clients) ticked, then choose Create prompt.

In a connected assistant, open its list of prompts or slash commands and pick yours. How you open that list depends on the assistant. The assistant asks for any arguments, then follows the body.

Changes reach connected assistants within a few minutes. Some assistants only refresh their list when you start a new conversation.

  • Turning a prompt off hides it from assistants. It is not deleted, and you can turn it back on.
  • Changing a slug after people use it breaks their saved references. Choose it carefully.
  • The list shows how many times each prompt was used and who created it.
  • A prompt runs with the permissions of the person using it. It cannot reach anything they could not.
