Connect Claude

Step-by-step setup for Claude Desktop, claude.ai and Claude Code.

GAOwnerExecutiveTeam leadIndividual contributorLast updated 5 October 2026

Connect Claude so you can ask it about your ProjectBrain work. There are two cards: Claude Desktop (also covers claude.ai) and Claude Code (the command-line tool). Claude writes as the Claude bot, on your behalf.

  1. Go to Settings > MCP Connections.
  2. Find the card for the assistant and choose Connect. A dialog opens with setup steps and the MCP URL for your organization.
  3. Choose Copy next to the MCP URL. You need it in the next steps.
  1. In Claude, open the place where you add connectors or MCP servers. In current versions this is under Settings, as a custom connector or remote server.
  2. Choose a remote HTTP server, paste the MCP URL and connect.
  3. A browser window opens. Sign in to ProjectBrain and choose Allow.

If your Claude Desktop version cannot add a remote server, the Connect dialog has Config File and Stdio Shim tabs with the exact text to paste into Claude’s config file. Restart Claude Desktop afterwards.

  1. Run the command shown in the Connect dialog in your terminal. It looks like this, with your organization’s URL:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user projectbrain <MCP URL>
  2. Start claude, type /mcp, pick projectbrain, then pick Authenticate.

  3. A browser opens. Sign in and choose Allow.

  4. Check it: claude mcp list shows projectbrain as connected.

Claude Code may ask before each ProjectBrain tool runs. The Connect dialog shows a setting you can add to allow all ProjectBrain tools, or only the read tools so it still asks before changing anything.

To share the server with your team, the dialog also shows a .mcp.json file to add to your code project. Each person still signs in as themselves.

To remove it: claude mcp remove projectbrain --scope user, then revoke the connection in ProjectBrain.

Reload Settings > MCP Connections. The card shows Connected, and the connection appears under Active Connections.

  • No browser window opened: sign in again from the assistant, as in the steps above.
  • The card still does not show Connected: your admin may have limited which assistants or people can connect, or a new kind of client may be waiting for approval. Ask them to check Settings > MCP Policy.
  • The assistant says a tool is missing: the connection may not have that scope. See Connect an AI assistant.

Say “ProjectBrain” in your request so the assistant uses this connection. For example:

  • What ProjectBrain tasks are assigned to me? Sort them by due date.
  • Search ProjectBrain for tasks about the login page.
  • Which ProjectBrain tasks are blocked, and what blocks them?
  • Show my ProjectBrain timesheet for this week and log 3 hours on the website project for today.
  • What should I do today in ProjectBrain? Then catch me up on what changed since yesterday.
